A penile prosthesis implantation is one of many treatments available to treat erectile dysfunction. These prostheses have been performed for many years now and have been proven to be a safe and effective way to treat erectile dysfunction. Penile Prosthesis Options
There are two main types of prostheses. These are a semi-rigid penile prostheses (SRPP) and an inflatable penile prostheses (IPP). The SRPP is simply two bendable rods that are surgically placed into the penis to provide an erection during intercourse. The IPP is the most commonly used type of penile prosthesis. It uses inflatable cylinders surgically implanted into the penis, a pump that is implanted into the scrotum, and a saline reservoir implanted in the abdomen to allow the patient to obtain an erection when desired.
Advantages of IPP
The IPP allows the patient to experience natural erections without hindering urination, sensation, or ejaculation. It is 100% not visible and can be surgically implanted in under an hour.
